For most, it’s something we simply never can afford, which makes it a strong status symbol. Now status symbols are there to show the world your social position and your economic position. In other words, they send a message. Something people care a great deal about. Status symbols come in all forms and no one is really numb to the message. Whilst I personally may not envy someone driving a Ferrari, I surely envy a little bit those people who can afford to go on vacation when they want it and where they want to go.

Necklaces like these are not just artistic expressions, they are expressions of highly skilled designers and goldsmiths and stone-setters that have gained the position in their professional life, to create pieces like this.That in itself is also a status symbol. Having a clientele that would actually buy this jewelry from you, is telling a lot about your goals, your drive, your intentions, your dreams, your skills as a designer and creator. Your capital, as you must have the money to finance it before selling it. And be financially prepared not to immediately have the client for it.

It also tells a lot about your marketing and your sales skills and often, the capacity of moving around in the right networks.

Whilst it's not even the question if I can afford any of these necklaces, I will share with you my own, very personal top three. Before I do, however, I want to say how much joy it was to create this blog. Every single piece in this blog is outstanding! 

1. Alessio Boschi, the one featured next to Chopard...I find it so beautiful and outstanding. The idea is nice, the way it's composed. Everything, I just adore this necklace!

2. Van Cleef & Arpels mystery setting ruby and diamond necklace. It has this incredible fashionable look almost. Sleek, sexy and sensational!

3. Boucheron, the Swan necklace. It's not just stunning, it is kind of endearing. The beauty is almost melancholic. Very beautiful!
