Jewelry Discovery of the Day: Michael Aram

Michael Aram is trained as a painter, art historian, and a sculptor. Inspired by nature he started creating a well-known brand of homeware items in metal. Handmade and with a unique own recognizable style. 

Michael Aram says he always enjoyed the idea of creating jewelry and the opportunity to start a jewelry line under his own name arose around 2014. After a couple of years of working with a third party he now owns the jewelry brand himself and his connections with the established department stores led him just a little quicker to the jewelry floor than normally possible. A great advantage! This visibility led to quickly gaining a clientele who fell for his wearable expressions of art.

 

Today, you’ll find his work within his own boutiques and flagship store. But also at retailers throughout the U.S. And through a more limited amount of retailers in Europe and other parts of the world.

Here is what I love about Michael Aram:

When I went through his website and work, I read for the umpteenth time, that he is inspired by nature. Of course, many designers are. But it has become kind of an empty marketing statement and told always in the same way. However, when I look at his collection I see wisteria almost everywhere. I see the natural branches, flowers, and other motives that remind me of branches and how whimsical branches seem to crawl over the hoops. I love the mix of sterling silver and gold. 

One of the great things about Michael Aram’s jewelry collection is that it starts at $200,- and in the range under $1000,- there are a lot of great choices. The collection also contains some unique pieces and high-end jewelry creations that are lovely, but he caught my eye mainly because of the affordability and design coming together. 

In fact, I think that in this price category there is too much anonymous bulk jewelry and far too little design jewelry. And yet this is a price category that many people can actually afford. So kudos for that!

My favorite piece of jewelry of the Michael Aram collection? 

My eye always goes to the lushest pieces of jewelry, I’m afraid. But allow me to say that I loved the simplicity of the Enchanted Forest Stack Ring with Diamonds a lot! This is the kind of ring many people will love to wear next to their other favorite jewelry. And yet, it has that signature of Michael Aram all over it!.
