When jewelry meets architecture, wonderful designs and amazing similarities

Jewelry design and architecture, there are so many similarities. It's not a coincidence that the star architect, Zaha Hadid, designed also a lot of jewelry. In this blog, it is all about the nobility of creating quality. Norman Foster, a star architect of many buildings, including the Apple Headquarters, said this about it: ''it's not just about money, time and creative energy, but about how you use your resources wisely. Jewelry that reminds us of architecture. Architecture that resembles elements of a ring, bracelet or necklace. Come and discover jaw-dropping gorgeous designs and amaze yourself about the similarities between the two worlds: Architecture and Jewelry!

Architecture and purpose

Perhaps I told you before, but I adore watching Ted Talks. I tend to start my day with at least one Ted Talk of some sort. There are a lot of architects and talks about the future of our cities etc. on their channel. They inspire me! Lucky for us, the days of brutal buildings in just concrete are over, we are creating much more intelligent buildings today. More green, more light, more sustainability from energy to the whole life cycle of the building itself. I love Norman Foster and Mad Architects, but adore Zaha Hadid and think that architecture can have a huge impact on our well-being. Our longing for an experience and our need to connect, interact and create our own tribes.

Jewelry Design and Inspiration

How lovely would it be to hear more about the jewelry designers themselves, when you buy their jewelry? To hear what they had in mind, but even more: why they created it for you. What were they thinking, when they thought of you? It is not just their inspiration that is interesting, but far more; why should you want to wear it? Is their a symbolism behind it that resonates with the wearer of the jewelry? Does it stand for something that you love? Or is it simply unique? I would like jewelry designers to talk more about the people wearing their jewelry. Thinking more, perhaps, about the people who will want to wear the pieces. I like them to really connect with the clients, with the tribe that loves their jewelry. It happens too little still. Unlike an architect, a jewelry designer can much easier connect with you.

Jewelry and Architecture, so much in common!

This blog is also about inspiration. About looking at jewelry with new eyes. About creating something so beautiful, that you start to look at jewelry, once again, differently. Enjoy! And do tell me what you love!

Big jewelry trend

One more thing about this type of jewelry that might just give you that last little push to embrace it :-) It is already a trend, but it will grow much bigger in the future. It's a slightly eclectic but also an intelligent way to look at jewelry. Often less frivolous, but as we all tend to value our thinking and our intellect more and more as a resource in work and of course education, it might just as well be that this trend will grow even bigger than we expect right now. Or even appeal to all those who thought of jewelry being too superficial for their own good. Or never liked jewelry because it sometimes seems to be ''how big is your diamond''. Well, if that was your way of thinking, you might find that the architectural approach is much more suited for your lifestyle. Either way, I...the person who loves to wear silly animals and crazy colorful jewelry...love this style of jewelry too! Many of the pieces featured in this article are definitely jewelry that I would wear without any doubt. Hoping, as always, that by creating posts like these, I convince you somehow to always keep a very open mind towards jewelry (and everything else that matters in life)!

Great article Esther, thank you for these beautiful and thoughtful perspectives. There is something particularly stimulating for the human mind about architecture... It brings art and imagination into the world around us after all.
I love seeing your references to visionaries like Zaha Hadid, who is also a hero of mine! Our art jewellery collective has even created a unique piece inspired by a design of hers (though the inspiration is far from obvious). We've also created artworks inspired by Gaudi's architecture, whose organic, irreverent aesthetics (which, in my opinion, borders on the sublime) are an endless invitation to dream of shapes, dynamics, and the essence of what makes us and the world around us...
I look forward to sharing this article in my network!

Thank you so much, Breda! I was listening in the morning, as I love to do every morning, to a Ted Talk or interview with someone interesting. It happened to be an architect and before I knew it, I had the whole idea :-) Thank you so much for your lovely comments and support! Is there anything you would like to write about? :-)
